The trail starts out a bit “technical,” but really it’s not bad.

If you take some time to play, the bumpy terrain will truly not be an issue at all.

After a bit, the trail smooths out, but still keep any eye out for roots.
If you haven’t yet seen any water buffalo, you’ll likely see some off in the distance at this farm.
Keep an eye (and ear) out for birds, as there are plenty, especially along the coast.
There isn’t too much Silvergrass along this route, so savor the few spots in which you find it!
Most of the path is paved, just as you see below.
On the side of the trail opposite the shore, there are a number of farms.

Pui O Beach is where you’ll end this hike, and it’s a great reward on many levels.

Trail Head and Route
The trail begins at the Mui Wo Ferry Pier (GPS coordinates: +22.264831, +114.001943). Head south until you get onto Mu Wo Ferry Pier Road – You’ll be on the Lantau Trail.
Very soon, you’ll see a hiking path on your right-hand side leading up and away from the paved road. Follow this up, and then use our map to make sure you’re on track for the rest of the route!
The trail is well-marked, leading you towards Pui O, where the hike concludes. This route offers a mix of some gentle uphill climbs and relaxing flat sections, suitable for a moderate fitness level.

Start at the Mui Wo Ferry Pier, and end at Pui O Beach. There are many ways to get to the Mui Wo Ferry Pier and back from Pui O Beach. We recommend you use Google Maps to choose the route you best like.
A note about our hiking route: In the spirit of making this hike as family-friendly as possible, we hiked along the coastline the entire time – that is the route we provide you in the maps below. However, at one point along our route, there are trail signs that point to “Pui O” which will take you up and over Tai Ngau Wu Teng Mountain. Do NOT follow those signs if you’d like to avoid that more challenging climb. Put more simply, use our route map, and you’ll be on the gentle and easy route the entire time!
